If you have a loved one facing the devastating news of cancer or any life threatening illness, this is a fantastic tool to put in their hands or read together if it is your significant other or your child. HOPE lives in between the pages of this and the other books and materials from Dr Bernie Siegel.My late husband and I had the blessing of attending Dr. Siegel's seminars and workshops back so many years ago and my and my hubby's outlook into his disease were forever changed. We had been handed a sentence by an oncologist that had no understanding that his job was first to heal. Dr Siegel changed that and I attribute to his teachings much of the time we had together that was far beyond the initial prognosis. My heart is grateful even after two decades since my beloved went on to meet the Lord because I recall how this loving doctor Siegel made a difference to us.Today I find myself buying this book for one of my parents who has been diagnosed with Cancer. The journey begins anew.Blessings upon all of you who are confronted with an illness that is threatening your life or the life of someone beloved to you. -- Please let me know if you find my review helpful. This is an outstand book for someone who has a loved one or friend diagnosed with the terrible disease of cancer. The author is an outstanding writer and oncologist with wonderful stories and a strong, healthy view of coping with this dreaded disease and/or being a support to someone is actually has the dreaded diagnosis. More than 30 years ago, someone gave this book to me when a friend of mine was diagnosed with a poor prognosis. It gave me a different way to think about cancer and a more informed perspective on how to deal with someone else's diagnosis. Then, two decades later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The information in this book help me immensely as I trudged through the horrid chemo treatments and their debilitating physical and emotional impact. I have bought this book at least seven times since my own diagnosis for other people. Everyone agrees, it is a wonderful book.

a favorite to give to people who are struggling with cancer. My mom read the book and got the tapes and recovered from what they said was terminal cancer to survive another 25 years. So the mind has a lot of power.

I had a repeat recurrence of bladder cancer for the sixth time since diagnosis in 2000, and the usual treatment appeared NOT to have worked. A friend recommended this book. Bottom-line, Dr. Seigel, an oncologist surgeon, makes a convincing argument that survivors are those who refuse to give up ... even if it means firing their doctor who (for instance) insists "it's my way or the highway."I'm sure some of Dr. Siegel's colleagues think he's a "nut case." I think he's spot on. I'm eager to read his other books. And, by the way, I learned yesterday that I'm cancer-free for now. Treatment #6 just took a little longer to do it's job. PTL.

This uplifting collection of anecdotes leads him to the discovery of similarities and differences in the remarkable journeys back to health that have confounded science. What he found was that as patients heal their lives, it sometimes heals their bodies, but it always enriches their experience of living.

In my not so humble opinion [at least that's what others have sometimes said] everything written by Bernie S. Siegel is worth reading and taking to heart. I cannot imagine any reader who would not profit greatly from reading and following up this book.

Copies of this book have been read by family members for years, and have truly helped people faced with health challenges. I bought this copy to give to a dear friend who is facing challenges. She loved it, her husband loved it, they gave it to other friends and family to read, and suggested to her doctors that they read it as well.

An absolute classic in the literature of Wholistic Healing, in general, and of Cancer Treatment in particular. Speaking as a Cancer-Survivor and as a Caregiver to another, myself, I would highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with Cancer at any level: patient, caregiver, medical professional. and spiritual or alternative healers. Bernie Siegel has stated the medical facts, the psychological facts, and the theological facts surrounding what he refers to as Exceptional Patients (survivors)! I had read it before, and I will read it again!
