It widens one’s perspective while also reminding the reader that the ‘little things count’, that seemingly inconsequential actions have far reaching effects. Not only on those around us - including plants, animals and the earth itself - but also upon those nearest and dearest to us. The books central message - that any action, if initiated with a loving motive - has the capacity to change the world, is a wonderful reminder that each of us are precious and powerful. Although there are many books that discuss the near death experience and the wisdom brought back by those who returned from the ‘other side’, 'Purpose of Life’ provides rare excerpts that focus upon not only the lessons of those who had positive, enlightening experiences, but also those who had experiences which shook them to the core. I for one appreciate the reminder, to use the opportunities in this life to express and embrace love. May you too find inspiration, insight and healing in reading this wonderful book.
I can honestly say this book is hard to put down!! Story after story revealed near death experiencers’ stories and revelations of:God’s Love, God’s sense of humor, why we are here, and so much more! I’ve laughed out loud and wept openly. What a gem!!
I typically prefer NDE books that are research based and comparative verses single biographies. This is mainly due to my desire to set each experience side by side to observe any similarities that may exist. This is a book that does just that in a very concise way. What I appreciate most about this book is the fact that it not only covers various experiencers, but it does it in a way that also breaks down typical characteristics of an NDE. For example, although the experiencers’ accounts are rotated throughout the book; a number of them had life reviews. Thus, there is a segment on life reviews. There is a segment on angels, a segment on heavenly humor, etc. Second to this, I also appreciate how the book includes veteran researcher input; most notably for me Dr. Jeffery Long who authored two books on NDEs and created a data base of thousands of NDE accounts worldwide. Third, I really appreciate how the author wove in the negative after effects aside from just the positive ones of an NDE; and how egotism tends to also play a role in an experiencer’s return to the physicalist realm.One issue I had against the book was its use of NDE-like experiences. This is simply due to the reader not being sure if the experiencers actually had an NDE or if they were just concocting tales created to resemble one. Also, an added strength to the book would have been to assemble NDEs from more religiously diverse samples. This book seems to mainly move between atheists and Christians with the exception of one Jew. Another critique I have is that although the internet has allowed us to review a plethora of NDEs; most of these accounts were taken either from books or online videos. If the author was able to actually interview the individuals, perhaps he would be able to obtain additional information based on questions that were not asked in the medium he pulled the excerpts from.Overall, the book is a quick and easy read not just because of its conciseness, but because if one is truly as enthusiastic about NDEs as I am (and I can tell the author is), it’s simply hard to put a book like this down even though I’m already familiar with a number of the accounts in it. I’d give it 4.5 stars if Amazon allowed.
David Sunfellow has done a great service for humanity. He has brilliantly compiled vignettes from near-death experiences and provided them in this captivating and life-changing book. These glimpses into the infinite and eternal provide great joy, hope, exhilaration, and peace. They also have a central theme: it's all about LOVE. And this theme translates into wisdom for living our lives, and making everyday decisions: Is it LOVING? Thank You, David Sunfellow, for your loving creation of this book for all of us.
