I have read almost all of CJ Petit's books and have never been disappointed. I love Westerns simply because I know the good guy is good, the bad guy is bad and the good guy always wins in the end. I know a lot of people would say that's not true life, but I get enough true life every day and a book is a form of break from my normal existence. It's a mental vacation for me. I always loved Louis L'Amour and still do. He is the quintessential western write to me. But what CJ Petit does is add the dimension of romance into a western. I know, his leading women are always pretty, love their man, and have a healthy sexual appetite, but once again it makes for a great story, and wouldn't all of us men want our women to be that way?? Anyway, I can't recommend CJ Petit's books highly enough. I have almost read them all, and before long I will be able to say with assurance that I HAVE read them all. I hope he keeps on cranking them out. Thanks CJ for such good work.
Good book, and I have bought and read almost all of this author's books. The hero is a kind, thoughtful, capable man who views women as the same. Back in the 1870's and 1880's women has almost no rights in America and sometimes their husbands were cruel and thoughtless. The hero is NOT like most men, and he sees women as people to be cared for and cherish, and also to become capable and strong in their own right. The plots are good, and it is uplifting to read about a really GOOD man who is ALL MAN and that the ladies he saves become much happier and stronger for knowing him. There is always a love story in these books.
Dec 2017. KR, RW. Excellent! Mack & Katie. Once again this author gives us a great adventure romance story. The characterization is fascinating. Mack is a gunsmith but also a man who is always helping other people. Lots of info about guns and very interesting. He and Katie love each other but it takes a while before they finally marry. Katie is his true love and he loves her deeply as she does him. Mack is shot many times as he is trying to help others but manages to pull through the wounds. He is a gunsmith who really knows his way around all types of guns.
CJP has written a western that takes place in Colorado. The primary setting is a gun shop in Pueblo and the second Canon City. The two towns are on the north and south side of Denver. The young man is an expert gun smith and he becomes involved in the range war by design and not accident. His brothers family is being threatened by a larger ranch owner. The gun smith comes and aids the young and innocent. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER
The first 50% of this book was the best and should have been its own story. After that, it went downhill. The writing became shallow and rushed with missing words, inaccurate words and confused identities. In places, it reads as if the author had lost interest. 'Winston' becomes 'Emerson' and 'Mack' becomes 'Will'. A horse's 'mane' becomes 'main' etc. C. J. Pettit is better than this. A good proofreading and editing job could make this first rate.
I have been binge reading CJ Petit's westerns. I don't need to read the synopsis to see what its about, because whatever it is it will be good. A very normal western with "good guys" and "bad guys" with out ambiguities, presented with just enough of a difference to be very enjoyable. Read them, you'll like them.
I've read enough of Mr. Petit's books now that I believe he is churning them out as fast as he can. I continue reading them because he is so good at making the story lines very different but interesting. Very unfortunately, he does not proof-read or have a decent editor. There continue to be numerous errors (of which this book has many). It is frustrating and certainly not a 5 star book
Whole Petit's writing doesn't equal L'Amore or Johnstone it is generally an easy read. I think he spends to much time discussing meals and taking care of his horse ( he's been shot in the left bicep and removes the saddle, grooms the horse and eats again then manages to put everything back on 2 hours later).
