Amazon.com Review

An Interview with Linkin Park We got a chance to talk with Phoenix from Linkin Park and their photographer, Greg Watermann, about the new book. Here's what they had to say. Amazon: In which ways is this book different than a tour program? Phoenix: Our goal with From the Inside was to give our fans a more intimate view of what the Meteora touring cycle looked like. From studio, to video, to touring, the book captures moments spanning over a two year period. A tour book is a souvenir from a show. Amazon: The book seems to lack a focus on the typography that has become an important part of your image. Is this intentional? Phoenix: Everything we do is intentional. I've never been asked about our "typography" before... good eye. Amazon: None of the photos are credited to band members. We think you need to get cameras. Phoenix: Do you sell cameras on Amazon? Amazon: Which photos best capture the intensity of the band on the road? Phoenix: The live photos... especially those that show parts of the crowd. Amazon: Which photos show fans your lighter side? Phoenix: Any in which we are laughing/smiling. Greg Watermann (Photographer): I do all my live photography with a Nikon F3. Everyhting is shot on film - Fujichrome 400 (color) and T-Max 3200 (b&w), using various ASA's depending on the venue. No autofocus. No zoom lenses. And I never use a flash. Shooting Linkin Park live is like photographing a basketball game standing in the center of the court. There's so much energy on stage; they're constantly moving. And, it's happening in front of tens of thousands of people. The key is to be quick and accurate, and never get in the band's way. Having an "All Access" situation is the ONLY way to get the best shots at a concert, but I have to make sure I'm not a distraction from the show. I have to figure out how comfortable a band is with having me around, and then operate right at the edge of that zone. That's always where the best photos are.... Amazon: Is it true that dipping the tip of a towel in water makes it a more effective weapon against your opponent? Describe your technique. Phoenix: Definitely. The technique is simple. It's all about the snap. Toss your towel gingerly towards your opponent, and then snap it back quickly. Amazon: Halo 2 is out. Does this mean we'll see a string of tour dates soon? Phoenix: We have to write and record an album first... unless people would want to come out and see us play Halo 2 against each other. Amazon: What are the the best rock books of all time? Phoenix: Motley Crue's The Dirt Amazon: What 10 CDs would you choose to accompany you on a deserted island? Phoenix: Can I have instructional survival cd's? Rage Against the Machine Joshua Tree ~ U2 Legend ~ Bob Marley Weezer The Black Album ~ Jay-Z White Pony ~ Deftones Tidal ~ Fiona Apple Anthology ~ Beatles--can that count as one? ...and maybe some classical. MY GOD!!!!! Memorizing, an extremely wonderful filled book for any Linkin Park fan - A total MUST HAVE for hard core fans!!!Tons of awesome photos, quotes from all members of the band - I opened my package TODAY... Looked at it and just thought to myself "Ill just take a little sneak peek and read later on" NOPE!!! I sat and read front to back so fast and without wanting to look away, Best LP collectors book of all time!!! Best talented band I've loved for what would have been 18 years of my life playing them over every time I listen to music... and still will always listen to them here and on... Still...Its been 7 months later... Im still so saddened... R.I.P Chester Bennington. : (

This book is a MUST HAVE for every hard fan! It's amazing to see how they grew from meteora to living things, how different they are now.although their first album was hybrid theory, they based this book more on meteora writing and tour. There are a lot of their photos which make it even more valuable so fans enjoy it it's worth every cent!!

Another great one by Linkin Park. Love their music.

as the title says, this book simply amazing since I knew it, I always wanted to have it and finally I have it. when I buy it I thinking it would take a little longer than I thought because as a book is heavy, the delay would have meaning but arrived in time and now I'm enjoying every moment. Thanks to Linkin Park for this wonderful book and Amazon for their magnificent service.

When I first got the book in the mail, I had promised my friend that she could read it first, and it literally drove me up the wall having to wait. When she finally gave it back after two days, I think that that was the fastest I've ever gone through only 100+ pages. The photography was spectacular, the interveiws were about as detailed as you could wish for, and the entire book itself was written so amazingly that I went back and read it three or four times that night. I'm not sure if whoever wrote it only concentrated on the band's good points, or if anything said is true, but if it is then these guys must be pretty awesome, and if it's not then they still paint a really good picture nonetheless. I have to warn you, though, do NOT buy this book unless you are willing to repeatedly have your mind blown.

I just received this book in the mail and immediately read it cover to cover. The photographs are phenomenal! What was particularly moving for me (I no longer say amazing because the guys are so consistent with this) is the humility of the band members. In their interviews (both live and in this book) they are interesting as people, not just rock icons. I'm an older fan (43 years old) and a lot of people my age are surprised about my devotion to Linkin Park. It comes from listening to rock and roll for 30+ years and never hearing anything that comes close to the talent exhibited by this group. It is not just their individual talent, and they are all immensely talented individuals, but the synthesis of those individual talents into a sound that is unlike anything ever heard on this planet. Their music moves me in a spiritual way. Thank you Linkin Park so much for your music and this book!

I've been a Linkin Park fan for probably about 6 years now and I'm amazed every time hear something new from them. The creativity and energy they put into each note, each measure of anything they put thier names on. That type of dedication is severely lacking in the music business today. I'm glad to say to say I'm a fan, without any hesistation or worries. I've read this book, 2 maybe three times and it's the kind of book you can go back to and get new views of the bands months or years after the initial read. It's a good job, well written and an easy read, not at all full of superflous language and unnecissary jargon. It proves they are a band of thier word, just average kids from SoCal, with nothing more in mind than making great music.

Wow, this book is not only beautifully photographed, but the stories and quotes that the guys of the band have to tell are wonderful in getting a true inside look at the hottest band in the nation (and world!) today. It really goes beyond the everyday image you get from magazines and TV interviews, revealing the inner personalities of each person and you even discover that Linkin Park is not just a bunch of musicians, but they are truly artists. If you haven't picked up this book yet, I can highly recommend that you do because before you know it, this book will be sold out!
